Get FSMA Compliant with Refrigerated Trailer Temperature Monitoring
The FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act is finalized and the dates for compliance vary from as early as January 26, 2018 to May 28, 2019 depending on what rule you fall under. If your fleet works in the food transportation industry, you should know that you are required to have refrigerated trailer temperature monitoring on your reefer trailers to be compliant with this law. Now is the time to implement a temperature monitoring system to your trailers to avoid a headache associated with missing the deadlines.
What’s Changed in the Regulations?
There are some important differences between what the law first looked like, and what it does now. Initially, the FDA was going to take on the responsibility of providing a solution to you, the carrier, with the ability to provide temperature information during transport should a receiver ever question if the product was not delivered to standards. They quickly changed the responsibility of providing this information from them, to you. What has also changed is that you are no longer required to provide this information (temperature of the product during delivery) for each shipment, but only when it is requested by the receiver.
But have no fear, GPS Insight is here! No matter which rule you fall under and when your date of compliance is, we have a solution that can give you what you need. We introduced our temperature sensor a couple of years ago, and it has been incredibly helpful for our existing customers who are using it. We have added some great features over that time period based on customer feedback and continue to make improvements and enhancements. We want to provide the information you need as quickly as possible so that the inquiries you get from receivers can be resolved in a timely manner.
Use GPS Insight for Refrigerated Trailer Temperature Monitoring
Our trailer temperature sensor will provide updates on temperature for the entire length of every trip. The feature that is most beneficial, however, is our Temperature Alert. You will have the ability to get an alert if the temperature in your reefer trailer either goes below a specified temperature or above a specified temperature that is designated by you. That way if there is a problem with your trailer that needs to be addressed, you are able to do so in real time. The added bonus is that our temperature sensor pairs with one of our trailer tracking devices. You will have the quality control you need for your shipments, as well as the benefits that come with tracking your trailers as well (i.e. recovering stolen trailers, knowing when they leave designated areas, etc.).
Even though there is still some time left before you have to be compliant, it is important to get a solution in place before that date to ensure you have it integrated into your daily operations. In addition, why wouldn’t you want to invest in technology that will help ensure your shipments don’t spoil? Take the solution for a test drive, and see how easy it will be to respond to a receiver’s request to know if you have the necessary quality control of your shipment.
