GPS tracking software can separate different types of idling. If knowing the difference between wasted idle time vs. working idle time is important to you, this reporting capability will be appreciated.

Fleet managers are typically always concerned about idling. It is one of the main sources for fuel consumption and the cost of fuel is the largest expense for most fleets. Fleet managers want to reduce it, but the idling they are looking to control may not always be cut-and-dry. For example, companies that have trucks that run equipment such as booms or lifts typically need to leave the engine running in order to use them. This would make it difficult to know what portion of the total idling was spent working vs. not working.

Reporting on Different Types of Idle Time

GPS tracking devices with switches can report the difference between PTO enabled idling (working idle time) and true idle time (wasteful idle time). When you pull idle time reports, you can access a summary or detailed data on total idle time vs. true idle time vs. idle time with the PTO on.
