Q&A: Product Management

with Jennifer Wieth, Director Product Management, GPS Insight

Jennifer Wieth, Director Product Management at GPS Insight, shared with us her current priorities and future goals in her department.
QUESTION

What are your main duties?

QA-Jennifer-Wieth
I lead the product management team in developing our strategic roadmap and processes to deliver our field service management, fleet tracking, and any new products that we bring on board.
QUESTION

How long have you been involved in product management?

QA-Jennifer-Wieth
I’ve been in product management since the early 2000s. I’ve worked in ecommerce, web products, SaaS products, internal-facing products, and more. My first gig was at Western Union, building the first ecommerce site for money transfers and eventually expanding it to 13 countries. Each of my jobs in different industries has been a deliberate choice to add to my knowledge and experience.

I started at GPS Insight because I liked the idea of helping businesses become more productive. Having spent some time in distribution and supply chain, fleet and field was interesting. It was also interesting because it combined SaaS and hardware, and it was in an industry I hadn’t worked in before.

QUESTION

What are your current projects?

QA-Jennifer-Wieth
We’re working on how to improve the product processes and touchpoints across the organization. We’ve been exploring opportunities for transparency by sharing product directions and building inclusion. I’m also working on building out a framework for product strategy planning and execution. One of my strengths has always been meeting customer needs through integrating research and data into problem solving.
QUESTION

What’s up next for your department?

QA-Jennifer-Wieth
My first big goal is to get my team interacting and experiencing our customers regularly in real life, so we understand the voice for our customers and create incredible, sought-after products. There are so many interesting problems to solve and challenges to turn into opportunities – how do we support sustainability, how do we help customers be more productive, how do we help them analyze data instead of just reporting…how do we get there? There’s so much opportunity in our company, because we’re small, but we’re mighty. I look forward to solving these and other customer problems with my team and colleagues across the company.
QUESTION

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

QA-Jennifer-Wieth
We are a big music festival family, so we go to a lot of shows. I also love to travel and ski. Ski, not snowboard.
