FMCSA ELD Mandate Update – Extension for Agriculture & Livestock Haulers

FMCSA ELD Mandate Update

Haulers who transport agriculture and livestock are receiving a 90-day compliance extension in regards to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ELD mandate. This was announced by the FMCSA on Monday, November 20, 2017. Haulers in these industries now have until mid-March to comply with the ELD mandate.

The FMCSA will release more detailed information on who this extension will exactly apply to and is meant to give more time to haulers of livestock and agriculture to comply with the new law.

While all other businesses that fall under the ELD rule still need to comply with the December 18, 2017, deadline, haulers receiving this extension should take this time to research the best ELD option to comply with the FMCSA ELD mandate.

Implementing an FMCSA ELD Mandate Compliant Solution

Transitioning from paper logs to electronic logs is a daunting task for any business no matter how many drivers you have. Finding an easy to use solution is key in helping your drivers transitioning to the FMCSA ELD mandate. Even with an ease of use system, it will take time to train drivers on the switch to electronic logs from paper logs. Finding a provider that gives you access to online training and tutorials, as well as 24/7/365 support will be paramount to ensuring a successful deployment of an FMCSA ELD mandate compliant solution. If you wait until the last minute with this extension to find a solution, then your drivers won’t be ready to confidently hit the road knowing how to operate their new electronic logs.
