Two of the nation’s largest wireless carriers are phasing out their 3G networks. Vehicles with GPS tracking devices powered by AT&T and Verizon 3G will need to upgrade to 4G devices in order to avoid a loss of service. 

  AT&T 3G network will retire on February 22, 2022

  Verizon 3G network will retire on December 31, 2022

Why is this happening?

Retiring the 3G network creates space more advanced network services, such as 5G. This network shutdown doesn’t just affect GPS tracking technology—it will also impact other connected devices and older mobile phones. You can learn more here. 

What are the dates for the 3G network shutdown?
  • AT&T will retire its 3G network by February 22, 2022.
  • Verizon will retire its 3G network by December 31, 2022. 
Who does it affect?

This affects any fleet that has vehicles with GPS tracking devices on the AT&T or Verizon 3G network. If you’re not sure the carrier you have, or what network you’re on, contact your Customer Success Manager.

What should I do if I have 3G devices?

AT&T: If you have devices on the AT&T network, and you have not yet upgraded your device, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager immediately to schedule your upgrade.

Verizon: If you have devices on Verizon network, you will be contacted by your Customer Success Manager in the coming months to schedule your upgrade.
