Q:Can I disable the vehicle if the seatbelt is not buckled?
A:GPS tracking systems do not monitor the seatbelt. In certain cases we will allow you to use GPS Insight devices to remotely shut off a vehicle's fuel pump or ignition. However, due to liabilities, this is not typically allowed.
Q: Can I be alerted if a seatbelt is not buckled?
A: Currently, most GPS tracking devices do not have this capability. GPS Insight may introduce this capability in the future.
Q: What is your policy regarding Warranty replacement?
A: If the device malfunctions in the first year since purchase, we will replace it and cross-ship you a new unit and provide for return postage. HOWEVER, if the device was deliberately or accidentally damaged due to water, shock, excessive dust, or other non-warranty-related reasons, the customer must purchase the new device. We often offer discounted refurbished units to help with this cost. We advise you to take action against employees who deliberately damage your electronic tracking devices (often referred to as "tampering.").
Q: Where can the unit be hidden?
A: The unit is concealed in the dash and the antenna can be put in the A-pillar but if you have someone who is looking for the unit nothing can be 100% hidden. Our hardware is tamper evident so you will know that the unit was tampered if it is not reporting with the unique zip ties we provide for installation.
Q: Can I setup seasonal service?
A: This depends on the type of hardware you choose. Often times, we can work with customers to temporarily suspend service during off-months. However, this is not always the case, and you should work with your salesperson before choosing a hardware device and service plan to ensure your needs are taken care of.
Q: What kind of cell phone do I need for the messaging and to see the maps?
A: Your cell phone needs to have internet access and the ability to install Google Mobile Maps from google.com/gmm for viewing your account's vehicles on a map. If you only want the messaging and SMS alerts to work with your phones, they will need to have basic SMS text messaging on their account with the cell provider.
Q: Can anyone just call in and ask for information on my account?
A: Absolutely NOT. We will never provide account information to anyone without ensuring they are the person authorized to receive that information. Even then, passwords are only given out by email, to the email address which is registered to the account.
Q: How much training are we allowed?
A: If you need more training after the first time you can always call, look online at our demos, blog, and Wiki that answers a lot of the general questions our customers ask.
Q: Why don't you fly out in person for the training?
A: Training can be done via WebEx at the comfort of your own desk which allows everyone to dial in and see the training online. If you have many people needing training this is a huge benefit. We can come out for training if need be but with busy schedules we have seen that this works best and it is free online. Our customers want to manage their remote vehicles 100%, and we want to manage our remote customers 100%. We have over 1,000 customers and 3,000 users, and they are located all over the country. Even with 4 offices and several home offices, this is by far the most efficient way to provide rapid turnaround to your training requirements. Often times, support personnel can get an impromptu training session going within minutes of your call.
Q: Can I buy the units in groups so I don't have to pay it all upfront and still get the discount?
A: You can buy the units in groups so you can get familiar with the solution and set up a schedule of when you will want the next group of units shipped. This way you know which vehicles need to be available and we know when to ship you your units. To receive the discount you will need to commit to the number of units and understand if the units are not purchased in that time frame the rate will be adjusted
Q: When does your mapping update?
A: We use industry standard Navteq and TeleAtlas mapping for our mapping solution, and we receive frequent updates. Occasionally brand new roads are not depicted accurately, but this is rare. Depending on your area the satellite mapping is likely newer than 2007 or 2008, and street view pictures are typically less than a year old. If you have areas that must have an updated map please let us know and we can find an overlay for that area.
Q: Why can't I have diagnostics on all my vehicles?
A: Depending on the year make and model of your vehicle you may not have the diagnostic port. Our LD-3500 and HD-3500 units are able to provide diagnostic information on 97 and newer for Light duty vehicles and 89 and newer on Heavy duty vehicles. If the ports are not there I would recommend the GPSI-3000 or GPSI-4000 units for those vehicles.
Q: Why did you go with Garmin?
A: Garmin has the technology we need and want to make the integration work with our product. Their level of quality is what we need to create a successful product for your company. We do work on a limited basis with TomTom, using USB cables to sync landmarks to the device, but recommend Garmin across the board.
Q: If someone steals the unit(s) can they still be used?
A: NO, the unit serial number is associated with your account. It will not be able to be used on another account. Please notify us after your insurance company so we know that the unit has been stolen and so I can prepare any information to send to your insurance company for compensation.
Q: Can I have my installers do the job?
A: 95% of GPSI customers self install with the hardware we offer. There are manuals and a video on how to install the units. Our Wiki is available 24/7 if you have any questions and if you do have a questions feel free to call me or our support.
Q: Can you do any better on pricing?
A: Our pricing is based on a tiered volume level that includes all the features and benefits that have been explained. To have all of the services and dedicated staff available to you will in a short time will help you achieve a positive ROI. Other product on the market cost less than ours. However, ours will save you vastly more money since it can be tailored to your exact requirements, and will be more powerful/usable for your company. Our ROI is typically much larger than cheap competitors.
Q: I want to create users in different levels for different departments?
A: You can create as many users and the privileges they have in the account. Please let me know how you would like the tiers set up and the names of the individuals so tech support and I can know for future support calls.
Q: I want to trade in units?
A: Depending on the age of the unit and the circumstance we do not trade in units unless they are for a GPSI-3000 or GPSI-4000 and the units would at be at a discount not an equal trade. This will have to be approved by my boss for the approval of trade in and the discount offer for the new units.
Q: I only want to see the speeding on the city streets not the freeways.
A: You can set up a landmark over the freeways and then set up a speed alert for speeding outside the landmarked freeways. This way the only information you would get on speeding would be on the city streets. You can also set up a speeding alert for inside the freeway landmark as well. In late Q3/early Q4 we will have posted speed limits available so you can set an alert/report for 20+ MPH over the speed limit etc.
Q: My trucks always idle so why do I need the idle alert/report?
A: IF your trucks already idle and you know how much they should be idling then this report and alert can let you know who may not be idling enough or who is being to excessive with their idling. You set the parameters of the alert and who will receive the alert/report.
Q: Can I choose the landmarks I want to see on the map?
A: You can choose and design the landmarks the way you need them. Our solution allows you to make a circle or polygon shape over the area you need to know. There are color options and you decide the name of each landmark. There are no additional charges to have any number of landmarks.
Q: Can my company lease with anyone?
A: You can use any leasing company you prefer. LCA is already leasing to our clients and have great programs to offer anyone wishing to purchase GPSI. The Account executive Erik Salyer knows our company so can make the leasing process faster than other leasing companies who are not familiar with GPSI.
Q: Which Garmin models do you support?
A: GPS Insight works with the most currently available nuvi Garmins for the GPSI-4000 and GPSI-3900 models. If you have an older Garmin or have already purchased a Garmin we can see if they will integrate based on the unit. GPS Insight needs to have information from the Garmin and additional one time fees will apply if the Garmin is not purchased through GPS Insight. Q: My unit is no longer reporting and the lights are not flashing. The unit seems dead. Any ideas?
A: Typically, a dead unit denotes a blown fuse in the vehicle. Check the cigarette lighter to make sure that the fuse is good.
Q: Im looking for a basic tracking solution with good mapping. I have no need for Routing, Garmin integration, etc. What would you recommend?
A: I would recommend the GPSI-3900 solution for a powerful, affordable GPS Fleet Tracking solution as the price point on both the hardware and monthly service are fantastic.
